Gangster Prakash Narayan Pandey: Gangster Prakash Narayan Pandey alias Bunty Pandey, who is lodged in Uttarakhand jail, has written a letter to the state government expressing his desire to become a monk. The notorious gangster has sought permission to organize an initiation program in a temple outside the jail premises. This was stated in a HT report on Monday (March 18) quoting people familiar with the matter.

Gangster Prakash Narayan Pandey has also been in Chhota Rajan gang in the past. He was captured from Vietnam and brought to India in 2010. Since then he is in jail. In his letter the gangster has said that he wants to repent for his crimes.

The gangster was detained in Hanoi in October 2010 following an Interpol red notice first issued against him in 2002 on the request of the CBI.

According to the report, Almora Jail Superintendent Jayant Pangtey said that gangster Prakash Narayan Pandey is also known as PP. The jail superintendent said, “We have received a hand-written letter from PP, in which he has said that he wants to repent for his crimes and become a monk. He has requested permission to organize the initiation ceremony in a temple outside the jail premises.

The jail superintendent said that gangster Prakash Narayan Pandey is a vicious criminal, hence the jail cannot allow him like this. He said given his track record the request would likely be denied.

Mumbai Crime Branch had arrested with the help of Interpol.

Regarding arrest of gangster An old report in The Hindu quoted Mumbai Police as saying that Mumbai Crime Branch, with the help of Interpol, had arrested the gangster from Vietnam. The police told that Prakash Narayan Pandey was a close associate of Chhota Rajan before forming his own gang. He was wanted in 34 cases in India, including Most were related to extortion.
